Path to Membership
Steps to Becoming a Member:
- Register as a Guest and request a name badge
- Receive a welcome letter from minister.
- Receive a welcome call from a member or friend.
- Participate at BVUUF for a month by one or more of the following:
- Attending Sunday Services, or
- Participating in activities or events, or
- Joining a committee or volunteer team
- Learn about the privileges & responsibilities of BVUUF Membership through one (or both) of the following methods.
- Attend a Newcomer Orientation session. This is _strongly recommended_, especially for those who have no history of participating as a member of a UU congregation. We encourage everyone, including experienced UU’s, to participate in an Orientation session in order to become familiar with this unique congregation.
- OR, for those who have been active participants at BVUUF and are ready to join but are unable to attend an Orientation session, meet with a member of the M&N Committee and Minister or BVUUF Officer at a designated Joining Session to discuss expectations of membership in BVUUF, principally:
- Contributing Time, Treasure & Talents,
- The democratic process by which we operate
- How we operate” roles of minister, board, committees, volunteers, etc.
- Right Relations concept
- UU Principles
- “Class Projects” for new members
- Sign the Membership Book in the presence of the Minister or BVUUF Officer and a representative of the Members & Newcomers Committee
- Receive a New Member Packet (By-laws, Directory, BVUUF History, Budget, and Pledge Card, Getting To Know You form etc.)
- Exchange your name badge for a Member style name badge
- Have your Picture taken and posted in the foyer so we can introduce you to the congregation
- Meet with a canvasser to discuss pledging
- Participate in a Welcoming Ceremony for new members
Steps to Rejoin the Fellowship:
If active membership in BVUUF has not been maintained for any reason, the following process is available to re-join BVUUF.
- INACTIVE Members who have been inactive for less than one year:
- Send a written request to the Members & Newcomers Committee asking that their membership be reinstated, and
- Make a financial contribution of record for the current fiscal year (as required in our bylaws for active members).
- Receive a current New Member Packet
- Request a Member style name badge (with chalice logo).
- INACTIVE Members who have been inactive for a period of more than one year, and all FORMER Members:
- Sign the Membership Book on a Joining Sunday in the presence of a representative of the Members & Newcomers Committee and the Minister or BVUUF Officer, and
- Make a financial contribution of record for the current fiscal year (as required in our bylaws for active members).
- Receive a current New Member Packet
- Request a Member style name badge (with chalice logo).
