September 12, 2010: Drops of Water: Annual Merging of the Waters Service
Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberrry, preaching; Maryann Balassa, Worship Associate
Today, as we come together for our annual Merging of the Waters Service, we explore how we, like water, might be far stronger together than we are apart. We will also welcome former members of Open Circle Congregation, the lay-lead UU congregation that disbanded this summer. Today we begin giving half of our collection plate away to the community beyond our doors. Watch for more details to come!
From tranquil streams to rushing waters, the Fellowship Singers enhance today’s service with flowing song.
Today is our return to our two-service schedule; services at 9 and 11 am.
September 5, 2010 : The UUA: No more isms
Bob Norris, speaking; Harry Albert, worship associate
Bob Norris will speak on issues, beliefs, and facts concerning immigration. Why is this important to him? How does this relate to the Seven Principles? Bob will discuss the history of the UUA’s consistently strong support of immigrants, immigrant rights, and the need for reform, not more oppressive state laws. As Unitarians we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We have since our beginning opposed isms. The ism of the day is the lumping of all immigrants together rather than considering each human as an individual with individual stories, families, and contributions to society as well as the assumption that all undocumented immigrants are from Mexico and ignoring why they are here.
Carmen Sandim marks the end of Summer Services with her beautiful piano music.
Please note that this is our last service on our summer schedule. Next week we return to two services at 9 and 11 am.

Sweet Noise Coffeehouse Second Season Begins
The Sweet Noise Coffeehouse starts its second season with a special kick-off edition of the coffeehouse on Saturday, September 11, at the fellowship. Doors open at 7:00 pm for an evening of music and poetry, featuring performances from the “Open Mike All Stars,” folks you loved from last season’s coffeehouse. The AcoUUstics will feature a full set of eclectic music, and we have appearances by poets Mike Adams and Karen Douglass, singer Ruby Dickson, and storyteller Viv Hamilton.
Admission is a small freewill donation; simple refreshments are available for purchase (thanks, Sienna Project Team!); you are welcome to bring your own alcoholic refreshment. We need help to keep the momentum going! Join the coffeehouse volunteer team – sign up at the coffeehouse!
Sweet Noise Coffeehouse “Open Mike” Guidelines
The response to the Sweet Noise Coffeehouse has been exciting. Poets and musicians bring their creative energies to share with our coffeehouse community each month. Due to the nature and popularity of the coffeehouse, we are setting a few guidelines for the Open Mike feature of the evening.
We so appreciate young talent in our midst, and enjoy being a supportive audience for them! We hope to see a “junior coffeehouse” take shape this coming year that will offer a safe and supportive venue for young performers. Starting in September there will be an age limit for performers; we ask that young performers be at least 15 to participate in the coffeehouse.
We often have a full lineup for the coffeehouse, so we urge folks to arrive early to sign up on the open mike list. Performers are invited to share one piece; after we go through the list, there will be an opportunity to share another piece with the audience.

An Outdoor Service honoring our Sixth Source
Ten years after the original UUA Purposes and Principles were adoptd by the delegates at the General Assembly, a sixth source was adopted: Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. Today we gather in our nature playground for an outdoor service that honors the earth-centered traditions. Music by Ellen Laverdure
