Janet Meyer

Janet (she/her) grew up in a blue-collar family in Cincinnati, the first to go to college. She moved to Boulder at 21, and worked as a baker before going to grad school in Counseling Psychology.

Her spiritual journey has been circuitous. Raised Catholic, she became a born-again Christian in her teens, set off to college to become a minister, strayed from the straight and narrow path in a great many ways, fell into community with non-violent Quaker activists in New England, and eventually found herself in step with UUs. She started coming to the Fellowship in 2009.

Janet recently retired as a Counselor (specialized in issues around sexual trauma, reproductive health, infertility, and sexual identity). Now she works as a portrait photographer and also teaches memoir writing classes. She is married to Larry Sherwood and mom to Morgan Sherwood, both members of the congregation.  She enjoys hiking with her little dog, hosting dinner parties, gardening, and playing the Zimbabwean marimba.

During her time at the Fellowship, she’s done a wide variety of things, from teaching OWL for 7th graders, to serving on the Aesthetics Committee, Member Engagement Council, Caring Council, Hospitality, the Personnel Committee, and the Covid Task Force. Most recently, she served four years on the Board, the last two as President.  These days, she co-chairs the auction committee, helps produce the weekly newsletter and memorial programs, maintains the website, and has become the de facto photographer for the congregation. As Chair of the Communications Team, she lead the effort to update the website you are using now. She is glad to serve in leadership during this time of transition and possibility.
