Peace & Justice Camp Weekly Schedule
June 1-5 Peace & Justice Day Camp Schedule at a glance:
8:00 – 9:00 optional before care for campers who need it; $10 per hour per camper
9-9:30 Every Day – come together with welcoming words, daily announcements, songs and stories
9:30-12:10 Breakout sessions rotate daily through:
- PeaceJam and Project YES present – Exploring the lives of Nobel Laureates through fun, interactive activities. The campers will also work together to create a Peace Place at the Fellowship that will be dedicated Friday afternoon.
- Zoo Room –campers are invited to bring in friendly caged pets for other campers to look at and/or interact with (with the owner’s permission)
- “Junk” Sculpture Room – let your imagination run while you build with boxes, tubes, other “junk”, and of course, duct tape.
- Being a Peaceful Warrior through Karate with Christy Cheshler, instructor from Louisville’s ATA Family Martial Arts
- Snack – campers will be provided nut-free snack every day (campers with other food allergies will be given snacks that fit their needs)
- Story Tree – relax and listen to peace and justice based stories
- Peace in culture room –
- Justice Mystery Room – Campers will solve mysteries with middle school teacher and bestselling author Derrick Belanger, Monday and Thursday
- Peace and Justice through music with singers, artists and dedicated peace activists Ellen and Larry Laverdure, Tuesday
- Creating Peace Poetry with published poet Karen Douglas, Wednesday
- Discovering our own Superpowers – Derrick returns to look at “superheroes” in our lives and figure out what “superpowers” we each poses for working towards Peace and Justice, Friday
12:10-1:10 Lunch, free time on our Nature Playground and lunch clean-up
1:10- 1:25 Back by camper request! Re-centering with mindfulness and meditation
1:25-2:30 Afternoon activities
- Monday – Peace & Justice Games
- Tuesday – Nature walk
- Wednesday – Yoga with certified Instructor Heather Munro, Fleece blanket making service project and camp fire
- Thursday – Bouncy Castle and slip and slide!
- Friday – closing ceremony with dedication of Peace Place and presentation of the campers Peace Awards
2:30 – 3:00 Closing circle with daily recap, camper awards, songs and stories
3:00-5:00 Optional aftercare for campers who need it, $10 per hour per camper
