The Hundredth Name book
A story about a sad camel begins our learning about Islam.

Starting the month of Islam, First/Second Grade OWL begins, The 8/9th Coming of Agers are off to Vail! and the Intergen Choir launches….

9 and 11 a.m. Full Community Gathering in the Sanctuary, first 15 minutes. Children/Youth attend with their parents. Preschool/Nursery is open.

9  a.m. School of the Spirit

9 a.m. Puppet Preschool/Nursery- “Helping Others”  How can youngsters help others who are sick or not feeling well? Rachel Setzke Teacher  with Juliette Mettes, high school staffer, and Talia Ferrante-Roseberry and Morgan Sherwood, helpers .

9 a.m. Kindergarten – 6th Grade: Children’s Chapel: “The Hundredth NameEvan Kneale and Sarah Pritchard, teachers.  Can Salah’s camel learn the 100th name of Allah?

9 a.m. 1st/2nd Grade Our Whole Lives (OWL) Human Sexuality: Alcott Room with Renee Price, David Judd and Carol Hughes, leaders. Class is closed to promote trust and confidentiality.

8:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. 7/8th Our Whole Lives (OWL) Human Sexuality Barnum Room with Heather Munro, Jamil Scott, Emily Conger and Scott McCollom. Class is closed to promote trust and confidentiality.

9 a.m. 7-12th grade youth are welcome to help in the Children’s Chapel or attend the service.

10:00 a.m. School of the Spirit

Family Meditation Practice –  with Rebecca Lavadure, 10:15 a.m. – 10: 40 a.m. Pauling. Bring a cushion or blanket for the Pauling Room.

Nature Playground – Hillari Hansen, playground monitor 10 – 11 a.m.  Volunteers –Sign up online or on the clipboard in the RE hall to enjoy the fall sunshine and help keep our playground safe.

10:10 a.m. Intergenerational Choir –   all ages – rehearsing for the Xmas Eve Family Service, see below. Alcott Room.

11 a.m. School of the Spirit

11 a.m. Kindergarten – Third Grades – “Picture Book World Religions – The Hundredth Name”  Can Salah’s camel learn the 100th name of Allah? with Stef Moriarty, teacher and Letitia Abajo, Teaching Assistant. Also, a visit by Melissa Williams, choir director!

11 a.m. 4-6th Grades“Rainbow looms” Jamil Scott and Fiona Freeman-Grundei. Come try out a Rainbow Loom or bring one if you have it! This new craze is capturing the kid culture interest. I tried to purchase one a Michael’s and they were all sold out! So we will have to rely on those that are brought, but who can teach finger-weaving with yarn, too? Did you know our 7 principles can be made into a rainbow?

11 a.m. Youth Group 7-12th Grades:  “Pizza Chat” with CYRE chairs Cindi Schwartz and Derrick Belanger.  While Emily is away at the Coming of Age Weekend Chalice Retreat, join Derrick and Cindi to chat about ideas and the program. This Weekend: 8/9th Grade Coming of Age Chalice Retreat in Vail. There are 12 participants in the joint UU Church of Boulder/BVUUF COA this year! They are kicking off the year at the Hook’s family condo with Guides David Hughes (UUCB), Linda Spencer, Laura Murray and Emily Conger.  Rev. Lydia led their Opening Ceremony last Sunday afternoon. We wish them the best time!

A last call for any First or Second Graders and their families who would like to enroll in the First/Second Grade OWL (Our Whole Lives) Human Sexuality Class. Parent/Child Orientation is this Thursday, October 17 from 5-7 p.m. with childcare for Siblings provided if needed.
The class is offered on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. for 8 sessions. View the online calendar here.

Pumpkin Glow and Potluck, 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, BYO Pumpkin, Carving Tools, Candle, Finger Food Potluck item. We will provide cider and fun! Join us for this favorite Annual Event. Bring your pumpkin pre-scooped and carve it. Enjoy the nibblies! We will light all the pumpkins about 6:45 p.m. and sing Halloween songs to the GLOW of 60 pumpkins with the Lavadures and Bob Warden! It is beautiful!

Music in the School of the Spirit:

October 20 – Intergenerational Choir – Sunday October 20 at 10:10 AM Meet in Alcott Room.

All ages singing together! This opportunity is open to all, young and old, for singing, performing, and connecting with community and friends. I truly believe that everyone can sing and that people of all ages singing together is powerful. We will sing the oldies, rock, pop, country, folk, and UU music. Bring your “inner child” and your children to our Intergenerational Choir at BVUUF. We will meet about once a month between Sunday services and will sing at the intergenerational service for Christmas.
Family Event! Fall Pie and Hymn Sing Sunday October 20 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM
“NEW DATE and TIME” Everyone is welcome to the first Pie and Hymn Sing afternoon. Join us with your favorite pie to share and let’s sing through some favorite hymns and songs and learn some new ones. Join Melissa Williams and Julie Morris and several of your BVUUF Hymn Leaders in this fun music-making afternoon.
 October 27– Youth Choir ages – 3rd grade and higher – rehearsing for Intergen Bread Service and December Singing
