9 and 11 a.m. School of the Spirit (aka Religious Education) Opening Sunday
Kindergarten – 6th Grade: “Water Service Children’s Chapel” with Katie Covey, DRE. Note Change this Sunday: Children meet in the Pauling Room first, then join the adults for the Sharing the Waters service at end. Children will be invited to explore the sensory qualities of water, and travel on an imaginary journey with a water drop. We will offer our gratitude to the place of water on the planet and add water to ourselves in a drink ceremony.
Puppet Preschool/ Nursery: Welcome to Puppet Preschool/Nursery! A new program using puppets to explore preschool life issues. 9 a.m. with Missi Perrine, adult teacher for the month, Juliette Mettes, high school staffer, and Molokai Lemur, helper. 11 a.m. with Derrick Belanger, adult teacher for the month, with Juliette Mettes, and 5th – 8th grade Helpers Needed.

A few teaching positions in the “School of the Spirit” are still open. Usually once or twice a month, during the service of your choice, 9 or 11 a.m.
11 a.m. K-3rd grade Picture Book World Religions Our theme for the fall is World Religions. Read stories from various world religions with a follow up activity. Teach with Lu Wright and John Hoebel, and Stephanie Moriarty.
Puppet Preschool: The room is redesigned, there are puppets (Thanks to Melissa Williams!) and a theatre (Thanks to Linda and Eric Spencer!). We will use the puppets during sharing circle to talk about the big life issues for preschoolers. Each adult teacher will teach for 1 month, to provide consistency, along with Juliette Mettes, our high school preschool staffer, and a 5-8th grade Volunteer Helper. If you would like to join Missi Perrine, Rachael Setzke, Laura McCollom and Derrick Belanger in this fieldtest, contact Katie.

Place: Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1241 Ceres Drive, Lafayette, CO 80026Who should come: Kids who are interested in participating in a new Navigators chapter and their parents; any adults who may be willing to help lead the chapter or assist with its activities. (If you need to bring younger children, please see * at the end of this message for more info.)What we’ll be discussing: What Navigators is in general; what we want this chapter to be in particular (types of activities, emphases, age range); when, where, and how often to meet; who will be able to lead the chapter (we need at least one co-leader in addition to myself to organize as a Navigators chapter); costs; and other nuts and bolts of getting a group started. I will have several copies of the Navigators guidebooks to look at or purchase if you wish.Bring: Yourselves and your ideas for what our Navigators chapter could be; your willingness to contribute what you can in time, ideas, energy, and expertise to create a great experience for all involved.If you are seriously considering involvement in Navigators and cannot attend this meeting, please contact me by September 15 if possible. deborah-nav519@bitgems.com. The core age group is 7-18, but younger kids can also participate. The curriculum (badges, handbooks, etc.) centers around outdoor activities and skills, service, living in a diverse world, and care of the environment; but there’s a lot of flexibility about what we can do in a Navigators chapter. We can choose to use existing curriculum, borrow ideas from other sources, and/or chart a new course together.visit their website (navigatorsusa.org), or talk to me — I’ve read through the guidebooks and talked with the founder at some length. To give you just a taste, the Moral Compass of Navigators USA (similar in purpose to a Promise or Law in Girl or Boy Scouts) is: “As a Navigator I promise to do my best to create a world free of prejudice and ignorance. *If you are bringing young children who may not want to participate in the meeting, you have a couple of options. If they can play quietly in the sanctuary with things you bring for them, that’s fine. We can also use the playground or preschool room, but children playing there must be supervised by a responsible adult. We can organize supervision from among the parents present.
