Treasurer’s Update for January

January and the New Year are well underway – a time of making resolutions.  One resolution that individuals and families often make is to make a will or update an existing will during the coming year. If that is a task on your plate, you might be interested to learn about the UUA’s “Wake Now Our Vision Collaborative Campaign Legacy Challenge” which has the goal  of strengthening UU organizations through increasing planned giving (giving via wills, trusts,  and charitable annuities).

Thanks to a very generous $5,000,000 gift from the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock, Unitarian Universalists who include any one of several UU organizations in their will from now through June 30, 2020 will receive a 10% matching grant (up to $10,000) for any of the qualifying organizations. The possible beneficiaries include  most importantly for BVUUF the donor’s own congregation as well as the following UU organizations:

  • Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)
  • Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC)
  • Starr King School for the Ministry
  • Meadville Lombard Theological School
  • Church of the Larger Fellowship (CLF)
  • Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association (UUMA)

This program continues through 2020 when the matching grants will be distributed. So if you have been considering making or updating your will, consider including BVUUF or any one of the above organizations as a beneficiary. Your planned future gift can have near term benefits as well to our Fellowship and to Unitarian Universalism.  For more information see the  Wake Now Our Vision  web site, contact our planned giving team by emailing plannedgiving@bvuuf.org or contact me at treasurer@bvuuf.org.
