The Board held its regular monthly meeting on August 20 as well as a special meeting on August 23. At the August 20 meeting, Board members continued their discussion of Widening the Circle of Concern, a report by the UUA Commission on Institutional Change. The Board also took the following business actions.
- Approved the July Treasurer’s Report and minutes from two July Board meetings.
- Revised the compensation for the two-year, half-time ministerial intern expected to start in September. The compensation will be $18,000 for the two years. This figure is in line with the amount we paid our last ministerial intern and reflects the amount BVUUF has been budgeting.
- Accepted the Building Finance Report for July, which was full of good news: Building pledges received to date total $2,042,227. Twenty-six pledge units have paid more than the amounts they pledged, and most members have paid or are paying their pledge amounts. Also, we still have about a third of the building contingency fund. Barring unexpected expenses, the contingency fund can be used to pay part of the long-term building loan of $709,000. With this development, and because interest rates have declined, monthly payments on this loan in the years ahead are likely to be far lower than projected.
- Adopted a Board Covenant for 2020-2021. This Covenant provides guidelines for how Board members will work with each other.
At the special meeting on August 23, the Board approved a fundraising request from the Social Justice Council. The fundraiser will seek donations to benefit the charity RIP Medical Debt. Each dollar raised will eliminate $100 of medical debt for residents in Boulder, Weld, and Broomfield counties.
