The BVUUF Board of Officers and Trustees held its first meeting of the 2020-2021 Fellowship year on July 23, 2020. The agenda included introductions of new and continuing members, an overview of Board processes and procedures, and a first look at the 2020 Report of the UUA Commission on Institutional Change, which BVUUF leaders will study throughout the year. The Board also took the following actions:
- Approved the Treasurer’s Report for June 2020 and the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The report shows that the fiscal year ended with a surplus of $77,417, largely because pledge income and Sunday plate income were higher than expected, and expenses were lower than budgeted because we were out of the building.
- Approved a 10-Year Service Award for Office Manager Carol Pranschke. In recognition of her decade of employment with the Fellowship, as well as the extra work she has done related to the building project, Carol will receive a tax-paid gift card and one additional week of paid vacation.
- Considered hiring Lisa C. Moore, a student at Meadville Lombard Theological School, as a 2-year, half time intern. Board members raised a number of concerns about the proposal. Rev. Lydia was not at the meeting to express her views, and the proposal was tabled. A Special Board meeting attended by Rev. Lydia was held on July 30 to make the decision. At that meeting, the Board approved the hire, and Lisa is expected to start the internship in late summer or early fall.
- Discussed the timing for requesting forgiveness of our Paycheck Protection Program loan and disbanding the Building Committee; reviewed the Board Covenant, Charter, and Annual Goals; and established this year’s Board Liaisons to BVUUF committees.
