Oct. 5, 2014 SpiritJam Weekly Update

Explore the theme of Vision with LegoJam and QuestJam, open to all ages.   

9 and 11 a.m. Kindergarten* and up (adults invited too!):

CircleJam: Ingathering for all.  Introduction of the October theme of “Vision.”

LegoJam: SpiritJam leader Michael offers this Lego Game played by executives, for which there is a Visionary and a Builder. The Visionary sees a Lego structure but cannot touch it. The Builder can touch the Legos, but cannot see the original structure. The Visionary has to enable the Builder to recreate the structure.

 

 

QuestJam with Katie, SpiritJam director. Take a mini-VisionQuest with Rainbow Peepholes. Bring a small blanket to sit on in the Nature Playground for 5 minutes. We will have some available as well.

These Rainbow Peepholes diffract the white light into rainbow light. What does the world look like from where you are sitting?

 

 

9 and 11 a.m. Preschool/Nursery-  “Tour of the Outside of the Church”  with Miss Ari. Fifth graders and older are invited to be a helper at either 9 or 11 a.m. Sign up online

9 – 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 Adult discussion group:  “Jack Kornfield Tapes on Buddhist Psychology” led by Judy Feland, in the Thoreau Room.

12:30 – 2 p.m. 8/9th Grade Coming of Age with Guides Laura Murray and Linda Spencer. “Severance from Childhood”

Upcoming Adult Classes:

Playshop, Saturday, Oct. 4, 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. with Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry, Boulder Valley UU Fellowship sanctuary.

Sundays, Oct. 5 and on – Tapes on Buddhism

Judy Feland will facilitate 6 of the 12 Kornfield tapes, and maybe more as interest warrants. Sessions will be a listen and discuss class. Topics of the tapes may include aversion, delusion, compassion, generosity, sympathetic joy, and loving kindness. Time for these sessions will be 9-10:30 on Sundays Oct 5, 12, 19, Nov 2, 9, 16 with more sessions possible. In the Thoreau Room.
Thursday, Oct. 9 – What U.U.’s Believe
 A one session class that offers a synopsis of UU thought and tradition based on an article by the Rev Rebecca Parker, past president of Starr King School for the Ministry.  Rev Lydia will lead this discussion  at 7PM at the Fellowship. In the sanctuary.

Sunday, Oct. 26 – Judaism presented by Lisa Ogle This is a 1 session exploration of the Hebrew faith to be held on from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Thoreau Room.Sunday, Nov. 2 and 16 Catholicism with Jean Nuttal facilitating a 2 session class Sunday Nov 2 and 16 at 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Thoreau Room.Sunday, Nov. 9 Buddhism presented by Ani Liggett in a 1 session class at 12:30 p.m. in the Thoreau Room.

Sunday, Nov. 23 Christianity facilitated by Jean Cannella, a 1 session class at 9-10:30 a.m. in the Thoreau Room.

Sunday, Dec. 7 – Mormonism presented by Linda Thornton and Laura Murray, a 1 session class from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Thoreau Room.

Sunday, Dec. 14 – Humanism facilitated by Dave Leonard, a 1 session class from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Thoreau Room.

The A-RE committee is still discussing the possibility of presenting other religions such as Islam and Hinduism.

 “Vision” theme for October. We are planning  Tarot, CropWalk ServiceJam Scavenger Hunt, black box science and Balloonskaleidoscopes, plus stories of “The Blindmen and the Elephant,” “Thomas Potter and John Murray, Universalists,” and “Elijah and the Still, Small Voice.” If you have an idea or activity for “Vision” explorations for mind, body or spirit, let Katie know! Join us as we co-create this experimental program with paid lead teachers and monthly themes!

2015 BVUUF Peace and Justice Day Camp Planning Committee  November 2 at 12:30 in the Pauling room. Be a part of this group that will meet a few times to create content/jams for camp, address some issues that came up this year, and recruit volunteers for next year.  If you need child care, please let Katie Covey know, directorre@bvuuf.org.
