Earth Day

April 22, 1970 was the first Earth Day. Up till then Americans were ignorant about the issues of pollution and especially pesticides. Rachel Carlson’s 1962 groundbreaking book Silent Spring represented a watershed moment, as it raised public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment and the inextricable links between pollution and public health.
