Youth Ministry Newsletter – Jan 2014

Hey Youth and Parents!

Gratitude Tree

Happy New Year!

In December, Youth Ministry was in full swing.  The youth group played team building games and reflected on what they were grateful for in this past year (see photo).  They also set intentions for the new year and taped  (paper) flames to a Yule log.

Coming of Age talked about After Death beliefs and Our Whole Lives explored healthy relationships/friendships and communication.

We’re excitedly planning the next semester of youth shenanigans and getting excited about the upcoming middle school and high school events!

Building Beloved Community 2014

Where: Two workshop events hosted by First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque, NM
When: January 24-25, 2014
Theme: Social Change as Religious Vocation and Who Are Our Neighbors?
Building skills for intercultural communication and community is key to living into the power and potential of our faith. Who Are Our Neighbors introduces participants to a developmental model of engaging with difference and culture. Based on the Developmental Model for Intercultural Sensitivity, it recognizes that each of us has varying degrees of exposure, familiarity, and comfort with differences. Differences can create challenges that can either invigorate or divide a church or community. We cannot benefit from the fullness of each person’s humanity or build the beloved community we yearn for unless we can see and appreciate the differences among us.
Who: Both events are open to laity and religious professionals, high school age and up.
