MDD Summer Camps QUUest and Spirit Quest
MDD Summer Camps QUUest and Spirit Quest

Hey Youth and Parents!

I hope that you have all had a fabulous summer!

Our Youth Ministry has been busy this summer too!  Since the last newsletter, we have had a beautiful Youth Sunday where Coming of Agers shared their credo statements and we helped to bridge high school seniors.  We had many youth serve as Counselors and CITs for the Summer Arts Jam, which was a great success. There was also Spirit Quest and QUUest, the Mountain Desert District summer camps, which were tons of fun and very enriching.  These immersion experiences are crucial to UU faith formation! I also attended the UUA’s General Assembly in Providence, RI, and two courses at Meadville Lombard Theological School.  This has been a UU-packed summer and I am back, inspired!

We have many exciting opportunities for your family to get involved with Youth Ministry this year.

  • SpiritJam – BVUUF’s new model of religious education! The School of the Spirit will offer multi-generational workshops called Jams that relate to the congregation-wide theme.  Middle and high school youth will participate and help lead the activities, as well as participate in leadership development and bonding activities just for them!
  • Coming of Age – Unitarian Universalist rite of passage special course where youth explore what is important to them.
  • Our Whole Lives – Accurate and appropriate sexual health education (open to community members, as well)
  • 9th Grade Trip – Annual trip to the Hopi and Navaho lands after a series of workshops.
  • Mission Trip – An opportunity to live our mission in the world. Application info coming soon.

We are looking for OWL facilitators and SpiritJam facilitators (1-Sunday commitment). Let me know what gifts you have to offer this vibrant community.

I’m excited to start another year of youth ministry with your families!

RenUUal Fall Con

RenUUalMDD high school youth, grades 9-12 and their sponsors, are invited to attend this year’s Fall Youth Con!

Location: Hummingbird Music Camp, in the Jemez Mountains near Los Alamos, NM (shared bus from Denver)
Dates: October 3-5, 2014

The youth conference weekend experience will include forming new friendships and strengthening old ones through shared worship, workshops and just plain fun in a closed, safe, nurturing environment. Youth and adults who attend the conference will learn from each other why it is special to have a common UU heritage and share what that means within a safe, caring and non-judgmental community. The Youth Con experience may profoundly change your outlook in a way you will want to share with other members of your own congregation.
