Explore the theme of Reason in the School of the Spirit: with a CloudJam featuring Dr. Clara Deser of NCAR, and a birthday party honoring Charles Darwin. Youth, adults and children are welcome!

CircleJam (Opening)- we gather for songs and a Sharing Circle with Rocks.

9 and 11 a.m. “CloudJam” “Clouds!!! How are they made and what do they tell us about the weather?”
Join Dr Clara Deser, Head of the Climate Analysis Section at NCAR, to investigate the beauty and power of clouds. In keeping with the monthly theme of reason, Dr Deser will use the scientific method to show us how to investigate clouds as researchers do to know more about weather. Dr. Deser got the idea for the class while outside hiking around NCAR and is the niece of Jean Cannella.

Celebrate intellectual bravery, perpetual curiosity, and hunger for truth.

Bring dinosaurs, labelled with your name, to decorate the “Reason Altar” today.

British Unitarian Charles Darwin was born on Feb. 12, 1809. This portrait was painted just after he returned from serving as a naturalist on the ship “The Beagle” which had sailed to the Galapagos Islands, seeding his theory of evolution. P.S. There will also be a Darwin Day Meeting on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 12:30 p.m. for adults.

7/8th Grade Our Whole Lives (O.W.L.)   – with Emily Conger and Luis Uribe. (8:45 – 10:15 a.m.)

8/9th Coming of Age “Interview the Guides” – all the guides will be present for some Q&A about beliefs. with Emily Conger, Laura Murray, Linda Spencer and Michael Newman.

Adult Classes: (Drop In’s Welcome!) Visit the “one-stop-shopping” Adult Webpage for upcoming offerings – Wine, Cheese and Conversation with Rev. Lydia, Women’s Spirituality Group, and Darwin Day.

  • 9 or 11 a.m. Parent Circle – Reason – explaining life and death to children with Katie Covey, Director. (9 a.m. – Thoreau Rm. 11 a.m. Barnum Rm.)
  • 10 a.m. Spanish Conversation (Thoreau Rm.)

Playground Monitors:  Hannah Grosser, 10 – 11 a.m.  Sign up online  or on the bulletin board. Weather permitting, but the children love to go outside!

Reflection, Sharing and Support
Guided by the monthly theme with tangents as desired.
Specifically for parents, and other important adults in a family.
Facilitated by Katie Covey, Director, School of the Spirit

Mini-care packages for the homeless – donations of items needed (travel sized toothpaste, toothbrushes, granola bars, thin gloves, comb, soap, emergency blanket, razor, small wet wipes, small First Aid items, small deodorant, cracker packages, bus passes, etc.) for the 3/1 ServiceJam Project (one service at 10 a.m. only). Donation box by the SpiritJam Lab. Items will be packed in a quart sized Ziploc bag by children and others. The mini-care packages will be available to congregants willing to keep them in their car or purse to give to the homeless.

Save the dates: 2015 Peace and Justice Summer Day Camp with PeaceJam.  June 1-5th. K-5th graders. For our 9th annual camp, we go GLOBAL through our collaboration with PeaceJam. PeaceJam’s mission is to create young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates who pass on the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody.
