Our Stories: Pulling Us Through and Holding Us Back

People insist that you have a life story, a story explaining how you became you, a version you use when you’re seeking employment, another you use when you’re out on a date. A life story is a lot like a resumé. It tells us and everybody else what to expect from us. When we change during a life transition, we have to update our resumés, to revise our life stories to match our new reality, including some incidents, ignoring others, reinterpreting some episodes and rewriting some others. Story’s just a tool to fit a need. You have a toolbox full from all you’ve done
