Our Stories: Pulling Us Through and Holding Us Back

People insist that you have a life story, a story explaining how you became you, a version you use when you’re seeking employment, another you use when you’re out on a date. A life story is a lot like a resumé. It tells us and everybody else what to expect from us. When we change during a life transition, we have to update our resumés, to revise our life stories to match our new reality, including some incidents, ignoring others, reinterpreting some episodes and rewriting some others.
